Cyber range design framework for cyber security education and training

Abstract The need for effective training of cyber security personnel working in critical infrastructures and the corporate has brought attention to evolution Cyber Ranges (CRs) as learning tools. Although CRs have been organized many years, there is a lack standards common methodologies that facilitate their development optimize effectiveness. Aiming at strengthening education research utilize well designed CRs, we first analyze domain identify key characteristics, strengths fundamental weaknesses, based on these outcomes propose Range Design Framework (CRDF), which includes CR Architecture Life-Cycle. presents main components CRDF compliant whereas Life-Cycle phases such approaches activities embrace. builds Conceptual eLearning Training (COFELET) Exercise COFELET particularly elaborated educational approaches, by adopting its design considerations were widely adopted theories (e.g., scenario-based, reuse elements). envisages elaboration impact, mitigate minimize preparation running costs. Under this prism, preliminary appreciation effectiveness presented along with expected approaches.
